I’ve wanted to start this blog for quite some time now.
Truth is, I’ve been busy. Busy doing what I am about to encourage you to do.
Allow me to give you some context. I’ll try to be brief.
It’s 2015, I am standing on the stage in front of my graduating class.
I just delivered a message I couldn’t keep inside of me.
Being an introvert, the last thing I wanted to do was give a speech to 5000 people.
But I couldn’t let my peers graduate without hearing this message.
I wanted my peers to realize that the internet had made it possible for us to live lives that were far from traditional.
I wanted them to know that for the first time in history they had other options.
I wanted them to know that they did no longer have to go the traditional route.
The Traditional Route: Going to college to get a 9-5 office job. Being tied to a city because thats where your job is. Not working on things you are passionate about. Not having autonomy over your day-to-day.
Then, ironically, I found myself going the traditional route..
I learned that even if you think you are mentally strong societal pressures will get ya.
As a human being there is an innate drive to follow the herd. We assume that if everyone is going in a certain direction, it must be right direction. It’s in our DNA.
I was on my third year of college when it became clear to me that I did not like where following the herd was taking me.
Working on someone else’s dream from 9-5 wasn’t on my agenda.
I wanted to be able to work on projects that made my heart skip a beat.
I wanted to be able to dictate where I worked. With whom I worked.
It was a cold winter morning when I called the school to let them know I was not going to be enrolling the following semester.
That day I committed to pursuing this “crazy” idea of not going the traditional route.
I was twenty-two years old at the time.
I still remember my guidance counselor telling me – “No one will look at you without a college degree”
Fast forward 20 months..
I’ve built a healthy six-figure online business that I am passionate about.
My marketing agency helps business owners use the internet to share their gift with the world in a profitable way.
Every day I look forward to opening my laptop and connecting with the people I get to serve.
I love my clients and I love the projects I get to work on.
Taking that leap of faith allowed me to relocate to my dream city.
I now live in an apartment I feel grateful to wake up in every day.
I’ve never been happier and more excited about life.
I’ve never grown so much in such a short amount of time.
I wish I would’ve trusted myself and took that leap of faith sooner.
I wrote this post to let you know that it’s never been easier for you to do your own version of it what I did.
I believe that at my core.
Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s not going to be easy. But it’s never been easier.
Do your future self a favor and start now.
