Issue #24 - Strategic Vacations

Mar 19, 2023

Hey,

After a week-long trip in Colombia, I am finally back in Miami!

I try to take one of these week-long trips, 4 times per year, towards the end of each quarter.

These trips are a crucial part of my business strategy.

Here’s why…

I find that in order to get a different perspective on my life and business (which is tremendously helpful) I have to change the vantage point from which I am looking at things.

Going somewhere new and exciting usually does the trick for me.

My intention with these trips is to disconnect from the world (sorry if you haven’t heard from me in a bit) in order to connect with a wiser and calmer version of myself.

This habit of strategically taking time off to think and reflect is part of the yearly routine of some of the most successful CEO’s out there.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, famously and regularly, takes what he calls “think-weeks” to seclude himself in a cabin in the woods and read books, articles, and papers related to various topics, in order to gain insights and generate new ideas.

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and Square has also spoken about taking regular "meditation retreats" and "think weeks" to help him stay focused and maintain a clear perspective.

Other notable entrepreneurs regularly do this are: Tim Ferris, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Weiner…

And I can tell you from my own experience that strategically taking time off works.

I’m returning from this trip with new insights, product ideas, and clarity over important decisions I’ll make over the next couple of months.

To get a different perspective I did a lot of hiking...

Spent time at a spa...

And visited some museums to get my creative juices flowing...

All these to say...

Time off, if approached with intention can be hugely beneficial to your life and business.

Don't buy the go-go-go always on bs.

Ying energy needs Yang energy.

That's it for this one.

Keep crushing,
